Day 1. Arrive Chennai – Mahabalipuram
The tour will commence with your arrival at Chennai airport. On your arrival in Chennai you will be driven to Mahabalipuram where you will be transferred to the hotel for overnight stay.
Day 2. Mahabalipuram
Mahabalipuram is a town in Kancheepuram district of Tamil Nadu known for its 7th and 8th century temples. Here you will explore the ancient temples commissioned by rulers of Pallava dynasty like the Shore temples, Pancha rathas and Varah Cave temples. All the temples are intricately carved and their strategic situation on the shore enhances their beauty. Overnight in Mahablipuram.
Day 3. Mahabalipuram – Pondicherry
Today after breakfast you will be driven to Pondicherry, a gorgeous town settled on the east coast of the Indian subcontinent. The town was earlier a French colony and it still looks like one due to the architecture and culture of the place. On arrival you will be transfeered where you can freshen up and proceed for sightseeing. The Basilica of the sacred heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Conception Cathedral are the places that you will visit in the evening. Overnight in Pondicherry.
Day 4. Pondicherry – Tanjore
The next destination in the journey would be Tanjore- an important centre of South Indian art, architecture and religion. On arrival in the city you will be transferred to the hotel where you can freshen up and proceed for sightseeing tour of the city. First and foremost you will visit the most revered Brihdeeshwara temple, an iconic 11th century Hindu shrine constructed by Chola dynasty. The fresco-lined interiors and carved exteriors are remarkable. Overight stay in Tanjore.
Day 5. Tanjore – Chettinad
Post breakfast, in the morning you will visit the 16th century Thanjavur Maratha Palace which is an expansive former royal residence. After sightseeing you will be driven to Chettinad where on arrival you will be transferred to the hotel where afternoon can be spent in rest. Later set out for sightseeing attractions like the Chettinad Palace which is a gorgeous palatial mansion spread over vast area. The Chettiar clan temple, Vairavan Kovil temple and Karpaka Vinayakar Temple are other highlights of the place. Overnight in Chettinad.
Day 6. Chettinad – Madurai
Today after breakfast you will be driven to Madurai. On arrival you will be transferred to the hotel where you can spend some time in rest. Later in the evening you will be taken to explore this popular temple town, nicknamed as ‘Athens of the East.’ The most celebrated temple here is the Meenakshi Amman Temple which is a Hindu shrine with vast courtyards, huge gopurams and towers. Overnight in Madurai.
Day 7. Madurai – Periyar
Rise early and seek blessings at the Alagarkoli Temple and shrine. Later you will depart for Periyar by road. On arrival you will be transferred to the hotel for rest and then you will proceed for jungle safari of the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. It is home to a significant population of tigers and elephants and other than those- rare lion-tailed macaques, sambar deer, leopards and Indian bison are also found here. Overnight in Periyar.
Day 8. Periyar – Kumarakom
Today from Periyar you will be driven to Kumarakom- a village nestled on Lake Vembanad. On arrival you will be transferred to the hotel where after unwinding, you will explore the village and visit the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary which is home to over 200 exotic species of birds including Cuckoos and Siberian storks. The Bay island driftwood museum which displays wooden sculptures is also a popular attraction of the city. Spend your day relaxing in the lap of nature. Overnight in Kumarakom.
Day 9. Kumarakom – Cochin – Departure
From Kumarakom you will be driven to Cochin today where you will be transferred to the airport in time for your departure.
